Europe’s Leading Public-Private Partnership for Cloud

The Helix Nebula Initiative is a partnership between industry, space and science to establish a dynamic ecosystem, benefiting from open cloud services for the seamless integration of science into a business environment. Today, the partnership counts over 40 public and private partners.

Past Events

Atos, ESA and T-Systems attended the Cloud for Europe event in Berlin on 14-15 November 2013.

Atos&ESA presented Helix Nebula in session 4 "Cloud computing services and market place”.

CERN, ESA, T-Systems, presented Helix Nebula at ICT2013 – Create, Connect, Grow, in Vilnius on 6-8 November 2013.   

ICT2013 brought together Europe's best & brightest in ICT research, with businesses old & new, web start-ups and digital strategists to chart a path for Europe's ICT research policy.

CERN, ESA, T-Systems, attended and presented Helix Nebula at the 2nd EUDAT conference, held on the 29th of October 2013 in Rome, Italy.

The EUDAT vision is to support a Collaborative Data Infrastructure which will allow researchers to share data within and between communities and enable them to carry out their research effectively.

Maryline Lengert, representing ESA, spoke about Helix Nebula during Plenary II entitled “Life and Earth Sciences at a cross-road: Community driven flagship initiatives in the EU and USA”, on 29th of October  2013.

Helix Nebula was presented by Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) at the CSA CEE Summit in Ljubljana, Slovenia on 23-25 October 2013.

Building on the success of the CSA Congresses held in the USA in 2010 and 2011 and the inaugural EMEA Congress 2012, VERSUS and the Cloud Security Alliance organized the first Annual Cloud Security Alliance Summit for CEE.

Dr. Jesus Luna Garcia from the Cloud Security Alliance made a presentation about Helix Nebula, a cloud environment built for providing computing resources for science and academic organizations in the EU.

Atos presented Helix Nebula at the Big Data Road Show event during 8-10th of October 2013 in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

From the organizers of Disrupting Europe and the FinTech Road Show, the Big Data Road Show is a unique event for entrepreneurs, investors and companies that are eager to know how harnessing, managing, securing and analyzing the ever-increasing amounts of data can give them a competitive edge.

CERN, Atos and ESA presented HN to IFREMER, on the 4th of  October 2013 in Brest, France.

On 4 October 2013 was held a workshop  between Ifremer, Helix Nebula, Atos and Mercator at the Ifremer headquarters in Brest, western France. Helix Nebula was represented by Maryline Lengert of ESA, Bob Jones of CERN and Mick Symonds of Atos. The workshop was also attended by around 20 people from Ifremer, which is the French Research Institute for Exploitation of the Sea (see

CloudSigma presented Helix Nebula at the 13th Annual Global LambdaGrid Workshop on 2-4 October 2013 at the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.

GLIF is an international virtual organisation that promotes the paradigm of lambda networking. The GLIF participants are National Research and Education Networks (NRENs), consortia and institutions working with lambdas. The GLIF participants jointly make lambdas available as an integrated global facility for use by scientists and projects involved in data-intensive scientific research.

CERN presented Helix Nebula at the second VAMP Workshop on September 30th & October 1st, 2013 in Espoo (Helsinki Metropolitan area), Finland.

TERENA and SURFnet organized the second VAMP workshop on September 30th & October 1st, 2013 in Helsinki, Finland.

EMBL presented Helix Nebula at the ISC Big Data conference on 25-26 September 2013 in Heidelberg, Germany    

Helix Nebula organized the Third Helix Nebula General Assembly in Heidelberg Germany on 23-25th of September 2013.
