Europe’s Leading Public-Private Partnership for Cloud

The Helix Nebula Initiative is a partnership between industry, space and science to establish a dynamic ecosystem, benefiting from open cloud services for the seamless integration of science into a business environment. Today, the partnership counts over 40 public and private partners.

Teaming up with CSPs to Address Future Challenges of High-Energy Physics Data

At the recently held Huawei Connect 2017, Jan Van Eldik, Resource Provisioning team leader in CERN’s IT Department, presented some of the ways CERN is investigating how to handle the rapidly growing data volumes produced by its experiments. HUAWEI CONNECT is an annual conference for the global ICT ecosystem, where industry and research leaders share ideas, explore technologies, and join forces for shared growth.

In this article Huawei shows the approach is being investigated through Helix Nebula project and how three consortia were selected to enter into the ‘prototype phase’.

One of these consortia is based on Open Telekom Cloud (OTC). OTC is a public cloud platform co-built by Deutsche Telekom and Huawei, in which Huawei provides an OpenStack-based architecture and support for other solutions. In this prototyping phase, OTC has delivered HPC public cloud solutions to Helix Nebula in the field of scientific computing, deployed thousands of HPC nodes, and analyzed the results of high-energy particle collisions.
