Europe’s Leading Public-Private Partnership for Cloud

The Helix Nebula Initiative is a partnership between industry, space and science to establish a dynamic ecosystem, benefiting from open cloud services for the seamless integration of science into a business environment. Today, the partnership counts over 40 public and private partners.

HNX Cloud Marketplace demo at Cloudscape VII, 9-10 March 2015, Brussels, Belgium

The Helix Nebula Initiative has been established by public and private organizations to build a federated, multidisciplinary cloud platform for data intensive science in Europe.  The Helix Nebula Marketplace (HNX) delivers easy access to the large-scale computing resources of this cloud platform through an innovative broker based on SlipStream® and operated by SixSq.
Over the last several years, the Helix Nebula cloud platform has been thoroughly tested with flagship applications from CERN, EMBL, ESA, and PIC.  Recently the cloud platform has moved to production, with CERN currently analyzing LHC data on the infrastructure.
The demonstration will highlight the diversity of cloud providers within the Helix Nebula Initiative and show how easily applications can be deployed on any of those providers.  Considering both the technical and business aspects, the presentation will explain how scientific communities can take advantage of the Helix Nebula cloud platform through HNX.  The demonstration will show the capabilities of the broker to manage the full lifecycle of multi-cloud applications, including application definition, automated deployment, scaling, collection of results, and clean up.

Helix Nebula is a new, pioneering partnership between leading IT providers and four of Europe’s biggest research centres, CERN, EMBL, ESA and PIC, charting a course towards sustainable cloud services for the research communities - the Science Cloud.
