Cloud Computing Procurement Actions & PICSE at the ICT Proposers' Day 2014, 9 October 2014, Florence, Italy

On 9 October 2014, in Florence, Italy, Dirk van Rooy, Head of Sector, European Cloud Partnership, DG CONNECT E2 Software & Services, Cloud, presented the ICT 8 – 2015 call: "Boosting public sector productivity and innovation through cloud computing services".

The presentation has been followed by an overall overview of the PICSE initiative. Sara Garavelli, Trust-IT Services presented the main objectives and expected outcomes of the PICSE initiative highlighting that PICSE can become a central point for the Public Sector PCP/PPI community.

Cloud computing has the potential of increasing flexibility of IT-based services in a cost-effective manner. The specific challenge is to overcome barriers to cloud uptake in the public sector and increase the preparedness for the adoption of secure, reliable and economical cloud services, while avoiding lock-in. The topic offers opportunities for pre-commercial procurement actions and for the public procurement of innovative cloud services (PCP and PPI, respectively).

The event was attended by over 100 people and participants showcased a lot of interest in joining the PICSE initiative.
