Europe’s Leading Public-Private Partnership for Cloud

The Helix Nebula Initiative is a partnership between industry, space and science to establish a dynamic ecosystem, benefiting from open cloud services for the seamless integration of science into a business environment. Today, the partnership counts over 40 public and private partners.

Helix Nebula @ Research Data Alliance Third Plenary, 26-28 March 2014, Dublin, Ireland

Helix Nebula attended the RDA Third Plenary event held 26 to 28 March 2014 at the Croke Park Conference Centre in Dublin, Ireland. RDA is a young organisation but it has the advantage of bringing together the public research communities that are willing to share data. In this way it makes a good channel for Helix Nebula in spreading the message to many research communities and also gathering information on their needs and priorities. There are currently 16 Working Groups and 31 Interest Groups.

There is enormous enthusiasm for RDA.The interaction of cloud and data was a common subject in many presentations and sessions. There are a number of working groups that are potentially interesting to Helix Nebula and encouragingly, there is a working group on business models which is studying how the cost of publishing scientific data will be addressed.

The 3rd RDA Plenary concentrated on the theme ‘The Data Sharing Community: Playing YOUR part’ and on exploiting RDA’s work to date to its full potential. The program comprised a mixture of keynotes, panels, networking, Working and Interest Groups as well as BoF sessions in topics ranging from agriculture to particle physics, from humanities to bioinformatics. All parts of the data lifecycle were addressed from foundational data terminology to data publication and re-use.
