Future Internet in Horizon 2020: how to build a pan-European framework to support Innovation in SMEs, 18 March 2015, Rome, Italy
The event was organized by the Italian National Research Council and aimed to foster effective collaboration between European and National Innovation Programmes.
The main findings of the event are summarised below:
- The need for the European Union to create a "single digital market" and a pan-European ecosystem in an "internet of things".
- Collaborations among SMEs, Intergovernmental R&D agencies and R&D private corporations (like the synergies created by the Helix Nebula Initiative), are considered key drivers to foster innovation and the creation of jobs & growth in ICT.
- European Policy experts outlined the needs and tools necessary to create such an ecosystem on a "single digital market" in the context of the Horizon 2020 framework programme. Relevant funding schemes were presented that will contribute to reaching the critical mass necessary to start an ecosystem.
- EIT-labs has been identified as a structural vehicle to launch the ecosystem.
